Cryolipolisis – Coolsculpting
INTRODUCTION
Cool-Sculpting is an office based noninvasive procedure which aims in reshaping certain areas of the body, by using a combination of low temperature and skin vacuum in order to dissolve the fat in these areas.
INDICATIONS
Cool-Sculpting is recommended or someone who is looking for mild improvements and it’s not designed for one-stop-shop major fat removal like liposuction. The ideal candidate has thin skin without stretch marks and realizes that this method is designed to improve certain local fat deposits and it is not an easy way to loose weight. Areas of the body that are usually treated are the abdomen (belly), the thighs and the upper arms.
MOST COMMONLY TREATED AREAS
(ABDOMEN, LOVE HANDLES, THIGHS)
HOW DOES IT WORK
Cool-Sculpting procedures use rounded paddles in one of four sizes to suction your skin and fat “like a vacuum”. While you sit in a reclined chair for up to two hours, cooling panels set to work crystallizing your fat cells. Some of the fat cells in the cooled area are destroyed and ultimately disposed of by the liver. As with the ultrasound devices, there is little risk of skin injury and no change in blood levels of fats.
The patient experiences mild discomfort that is tolerated well. The patient experiences the sense of suction and cooling and the areas treated eventually go numb.
IS IT A PAINFUL PROCEDURE ?
Cool-Sculpting does not hurt. When the applicator is applied, since it is very cold, you can experience a stinging or burning sensation. This last only a few minutes then you barely feel anything. This same sensation comes back when the applicator is removed but this is totally bearable.
After the cryolipolysis procedure you can directly go home. You can then experience something similar to muscle ache and your skin will be sensible but here again totally bearable.
TREATMENT SCHEDULE
Each session (treatment) has a downtime, so about six to eight weeks between appointments are required.
RESULTS
It often takes a few treatments to get optimum results. A single treatment will yield very minimal change, sometimes imperceptible. The more treatments you have, the more results you will see. What will happen eventually is an up to 25 percent fat reduction in a treatment area. At best the patient will get mild fat reduction—a slightly improved waistline, less bulging of any particular area that’s concerning. Results are not visible for at least four weeks, with the fat loss reaching its peak at around eight. By twelve weeks the skin smoothens out.
DURATION OF RESULTS
It is a permanent fat reduction technology, but only if the patient controls his/her weight. Lasting improvements to the body can also occur by changing behavior through nutrition and exercise.
RISKS
Because this is a noninvasive procedure, the frequency of potential risks, comparatively speaking, are very low and include
- Contour irregularities
- Numbed areas for a few weeks because of the cooling of the sensory nerves
- Minimal swelling is minimal
- Minimal bruising
