ORTHOPEDIC SURGERY

GEORGE SVOLOS

Orthopedic Surgeon

Dr. Svolos has spent in total fourteen years (1985 – 1999) studying at the Catholic University of Louvain, Belgium. Upon receiving my medical degree in 1993, I completed my residency in Orthopaedics and Traumatology, following a six year rotation scheme (1993 – 1999) in all major training orthopaedic hospitals affiliated to the Catholic University of Louvain. I also attained my D.E.S (Diplôme d’Etudes Specialisées en Chirurgie Orthopédique et Traumatologie ) at the above mentioned institution in 1999.

He has been practicing in the private sector in Athens since 2001 up to date. Currently he is a consultant Plastic Surgeon at the ATHENS MEDICAL CENTER GROUP OF HOSPITALS. His clinical interest focuses on the treatment of hip, knee, and shoulder pathology including sports injuries as well as degenerative and inflammatory conditions.

If surgical treatment is absolutely necessary, he is in a position to propose and carry out arthroscopic surgery, joint preserving surgery or joint replacement for the above joints according to the needs of my patients. A minimally invasive approach is offered to them whenever this is for their benefit.

Concerning hip replacement he is an adopter of the anterior minimally invasive approach. I have been certified for the AMIS technique since 2012, after being trained at Saint Luc Hospital in Bouge, Belgium, one of Medacta’s international reference centers.

He has developed special scientific interest in bone and cartilage biology and particularly in bone regeneration and cartilage healing process. I strongly believe that biologics including platelet rich plasma (PRP), bone marrow aspirate (BMA) and stem cells are emerging therapies due to their regenerative properties.

Finally he is a co-author of the guidelines for an optimal use of bone grafts and substitutes published by the Hellenic Association of Orthopaedic Surgery and Traumatology.
